Συντηρητική αντιμετώπιση του δύσκαμπτου ώμου – Conservative treatment of the stiff shoulder

Shoulder becomes: -Stiff -Painful -Looses active & passive motion Affects the ligaments & the capsule of the joint not the joint itself



-More common among women between ages 40-60 -Commonly affects also the contralateral side


Physical examination is performed by an Orthopaedic to diagnose stiff shoulder and an X-ray is necessary to rule out Osteoarthritis


-Idiopathic stiff shoulder -Stiff shoulder due to a secondary reason



-Patients experiencing pain at the end of range of motion. Little limitation of ROM. -Patients experiencing severe pain and significant loss of motion and function







–Emphasize on inferior trapezius rhomboid serratus anterior –Exercises to strengthen the scapula muscles






Multiple daily repetitions of short duration–>Keep moving continuously


Keep the position for 10-15 seconds, Where you just feel stretching without pain. Repeat 3 times per session


Gradually strengthen the rotator cuff muscles -Infraspinatus -Supraspinatus -Subscapularis -Teres minor


Start with 10 repeats, progressively increasing them


Closed chain Open chain Active assistive exercises Active exercises



-Try to make the patients understand that they are responsible for their own health and recovery -Be there for them
